COURT PLANTERS
An ongoing collection of hand glazed, one-of-a-kind ceramic planters for Sissy Moon Ceramics whose color palettes tell a story about a place or time and the mood associated with it. Exploring the combination of complementary colors to achieve an exciting and vibrant look, or analogous colors for a more calming effect. Each piece depicts a design for a potential outdoor basketball court renovation and several of these designs were created in collaboration with court renovating non-profit organization, Project Backboard.
NYC BLIZZARD
Created in February 2021 during an epic snowstorm. I used a crisp black and gray to convey the background of asphalt and concrete of the city, and a chaotic snow white in an organic pattern all around the pot to show the blinding, cold, yet beautiful experience of being in a New York City blizzard.
DUNES
A piece about the sand dunes of my childhood on the Latvian coast. The limited palette of warm earth tones conveys the feeling of safety, coziness, and grounded beauty of a special place I used to go as a child.
BIG SKY
A celebration of the big, bright blue sky we see in Portland for only half the year. The clouds, if any, are white and benevolent. The blue is deep, pure, infinite, and brings a glorious feeling.
SHOWTIME
Colors and patterns inspired by Los Angeles and its legendary Lakers. A bold palette featuring the franchise colors, and triangular shapes alluding to the Triangle Offense -- a playing style used by coach Phil Jackson to help the Lakers win five NBA championships. The straightforward palette of deep purple and golden yellow brings a feeling of victory and pride.
