GNOME RELAXING
Commissioned by the Oregon Latvian Society for their annual printed Christmas card in 2025, this was a digital illustration I created of a gnome relaxing in his home on a quiet winter evening.
I had full creative control on this project, so I used personal memories of wintertime from my childhood in Latvia, Christmas cards that my grandparents used to send me after I moved to America, and one of my favorite childhood books -- an encyclopedia about Northern European gnomes. I also incorporated certain ancient Latvian symbols, like the sun symbol at the top of the tree, and the star symbol (auseklītis) on the fireplace, to connect to the card's audience on a more historical level.
