I redesigned the menu for one of my favorite eateries: a taco shack in the Rockaways in NYC. My favorite memories of Rockaway Taco are from the 2010s when me and my peers -- millennial New Yorkers -- loved to descend on this place on the weekends for its vibrant and delicious fish tacos. I took color cues from our love of semi-ironic 1980s revival to convey the breezy nostalgia of a day at the beach: blues and yellows for the sky, sun, and sea, and greens that reminded me of the zesty lime flavors in the food. Rockaway Taco was down to earth, fun, and relaxed and I brought that energy into the headings. I paired the bold, dancing type with Interstate for the menu's body text for clear readability and a subtle nod to this typeface's native New Yorker origins, designed by Tobias Frere-Jones.
