BRING YOUR OWN LAPTOP
A brochure I designed for the software tutorial company Bring Your Own Laptop, to inform prospective students of course offerings on Microsoft Word.
BYOL provided its logos and copy for the brochure and the rest of the design was open to interpretation. Microsoft Word has been around since 1983 and many of us have had to use it for homework while growing up. This can bring up nostalgic and light hearted feelings, so I set out to incorporate that sense in my design by using a mix of pixelated typefaces and icons, imagery of vintage computers and floppy disks in combination with humorous photos of people (and a dog) using computers. The dog image on the cover alluded to the fact that, we all need to use Word at some point, and we can all learn it. For color, I used BYOL’s company color — teal, and paired it with a bright, rich yellow to complement it and further the fun, technologic vibe, perhaps even reminding us of those old For Dummies books for learning software in the 90s.
BYOL has a reputation for teaching software in a fun and accessible way, and this brochure design was true to that style.
