PORTLAND
I created this satirical promotional poster about Portland, Oregon as a way to cut through any sugarcoating about how much it rains in the city where I currently live. Surprisingly, creating the design was quite cathartic and helped me cope with the endless days of dark skies and rain here as I illustrated the depressing clouds to be almost fuzzy, cute, and harmless instead. Tools used: Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
I knew I wanted to create the Portland heading in 3D cloud shaped letters for maximum bleak, realistic effect. The rest of the poster would stay flat, so every choice I made in term of gradients, texture in the puddles, treatment of the rain, needed to have similar color and dimension without being 3D themselves. I chose a typeface that had a hint of hand lettering, to add to the cohesiveness and playful style of the piece.
